2nd Session at Carson D4K

The 2nd session at Carson went relatively smoothly with the 50 kids and 20 tutors/volunteers. D4K Founder/President, Eric Fonoimoana stopped by along with AVP/Clippers/D4K DJ, Jeremy Roueche. From homework to talking about everyone's role model/idols to volleyball, the session was action packed! Also, Eric had a chance to coach the Carson HS women's varisty vball team for a few moments...

D4K Hawthorne 2nd Fall 09 session

The second session at Hawthorne HS (CA) brought out more kids to the program. One unique thing about the HHS program is we have kids from different school districts. So not only do we have kids from different schools (which will all end up at Hawthorne HS), but now we have kids who have different backgrounds that will head to different schools for HS...and are becoming friends now. We had both DJ Jeremy Roueche and AVP athlete, Brooke Langston, on hand to help the kids. We can't wait to see how many more kids come out next week and which surprise athletes will drop in!

1st Fall 2009 Palmetto Session

We had a great start to our fall programs here in Orlando at Palmetto Elementary. We have 33 kids in the program to start with a few familiar faces- namely some younger brothers and sisters of kids that were in our program last year. This year we started some new parts of our program with Palmetto as we not only help the kids with their homework but we are also working on teaching the kids how to properly prepare and study for tests, and helping the kids prepare for the FCAT tests in the spring. This is Florida's standardized testing procedure for all schools and will make a huge impact in helping the kids prepare for the tests.

After the kids did their homework today, we talked about the meaning of "team," the importance of being a good teammate and how being a teammate can help them in lots of areas, not just volleyball. The kids had a great time today and we're looking forward to next week

1st D4K Carson Fall Session (09)

The second session to start this week was the Carson HS D4K session. This program is always great with the kids, the high schooler's, and the staff. What is way cool is to see former D4K members (in the pic on the left is John Brigoli, a recent D4K scholarship winner AND a participant since he was in elementary school) who both participated in the program in elementary school and then went on to CHS and mentored kids while in HS stick around! From homework to talking about goals (with AVP Star/D4K VP Albert Hannemann leading the way) to volleyball, the first session of D4K was great!

Here are some pics from the first session....
