1st Annual Grass Volleybowl

This past weekend, in conjunction with the SuperBowl festivities in Tampa, the Florida Region of USA Volleyball held the First Annual Grass Volleybowl in front of the Sundome on the campus of the University of South Florida. Thirty-one teams came out for the Co-ed Fours tournament that also featured a youth volleyball clinic. Olympians Rita Crockett and Keba Phipps along with AVP star and Dig4Kids Co-founder Albert Hannemann were on hand for the clinic as 24 girls from the Temple Terrace volleyball program came out for the clinic. The girls learned passing, setting, attacking and ended the day playing some six on six.

The tournament ran from 9:30 until 7pm and saw teams come from across the state and around the country. Many thanks go out to all the teams who came out to support the D4K foundation, especially Elmer Baldwin, Brittany Field, and Eric "T-Bone" Masson who all flew in from out of state for the tournament and of course Jason Dunaway and "The Atlanta Crew" who drove down late Friday night for the tournament.

And of course a big thank you goes out to the Florida Region for including us in this great event. Steve Bishop, Dave Carstenson and Michelle Daniels were awesome the whole day and in putting the event together. Thanks and we're looking forward to Grass Volleybowl II!

Stay tuned for pictures from the tournament and the clinic as they will be posted in the coming days.
